History

The Roswell-tree started on July 4, 2006 when Committee member Sally was supposed to run the Peachtree Road Race. However, after getting slotted in the 10th corral she decided it wasn’t worth it to get up at 0400 and go downtown to wait for hours to begin. I mean, the Kenyans would not only have won, but they would be on their way home before she would even get to cross the start line!
Now running with 54,999 of your closest friends is something that should be experienced, at least once. But, Sally had already done that. So, not wanting to waste all that hard training, she got up at a much more reasonable hour and ran the 10K at Roswell Park. After all, if not the Peachtree, (hereafter to be known as the Peach-shrub) why not the Roswell-tree?
She then went to have a celebratory breakfast with friend and now Committee member Vanessa.
As legend has it, when Sally walked into J. Christopher’s for her reward breakfast Vanessa asked her how she had done in the race. Sally replied with excitement, “I won! I won the Roswell-tree!”
Vanessa, duly impressed with this significant feat stated, “I want to win next year too.”
Sally replied, “That is easy, we just create separate divisions and we both can win.”
While enjoying their appropriately named Goddess Omelets, Sally and Vanessa realized they were on to a truly great idea. If they opened up the race to worthy friends and colleagues and created enough divisions, everyone could win – and the Roswell-tree concept was born!
(Editors note: If truth be told, only Vanessa gets the Goddess Omelet, Sally always wants to create her own omelet – go figure!)
